oh hey

what a terrible time to get nostalgic about China

finally blocked him from gchat- not like he was talking to me anyway. How anti climatic. China doesn’t belong to him anyway - it’s in my blood too.

Eva graduating, how quickly the years fly by - I still remember our high school graduation like yesterday! so much fun talking to old fashioned, well intentioned folks who still see the world in black and white, good and evil. “Tell people in China to demand 16 DOLLARS PER HOUR. Tell them to not settle for any less!” What a character :p

Dear Megan,
I’m perfectly happy to write a letter for you.  I met with you at least a couple of times over the course of the semester, and I can talk about your writing as well as your work on the group presentation project, so I think I can address the kind of questions med schools want answered.  Anyway, speaking as a person with a disability, I’d be much happier to deal with a doctor who had some awareness of disability rights issues than one who has not.

I wish I got to know her better. Apparently she’s not completely blind, as she can see shapes and colors. I was reading about her childhood and how she gradually lost her eyesight. She’d read books closer and closer to her face much to the chagrin of her teachers. So she’d memorize passages at night and if they happened to call on her to read she’d more or less remember where that part was and read it from memory. They put her in the front of class without addressing her disability, and since she still couldn’t see the writing on the chalkboard clearly enough, she’d watch the movement of her teacher’s hand while writing to deduce what words she was writing. Kind of like lip reading for deaf people. As for hanging out with her friends, she’d deduce from the intonation in their voice what exactly they were pointing at, if the thing was cute, weird, disgusting, or awesome she’d respond with what was appropriate.
It’s amazing how people adapt and change isn’t it? Can you imagine memorizing pages and pages of text so just so you could seem like you were reading?
